Penwern Fach, Welsh for "Head of the Elder Grove", once a working farm, has now "retired" to a more peaceful way of life. The original traditional stone buildings have been sympathetically converted into five award- winning self-catering cottages and nestle in 10 acres of private grounds in the heart of beautiful countryside - it is easy to feel you have escaped to another world.

Within easy reach of Newcastle Emlyn, Cardigan and the spectacular coastline of Cardigan Bay and just over a mile from the picturesque village of Cenarth - home to the famous waterfalls and salmon fishing on the River Teifi - where you will also find the areas most exclusive Health & Country Club known as "Coracles" (named after the traditional Welsh fishing boat) which offers a luxurious heated indoor pool with a spa bath, sauna and steam room and a well equipped fitness suite.

Newcastle Emlyn, some 3 miles away is a traditional old market town on the meandering River Teifi, with an excellent choice of shops including antique, craft and book shops, a weekly life-stock market where you can observe the auctioneers selling the animals and the ruins of the only Welsh stone castle in the region, probably founded circa 1240.

Cardigan (Aberteifi) is about 7 miles, an attractive market town at the north of the Pembrokeshire Peninsula where the Teifi estuary flows into Cardigan Bay. The town has good shopping amenities, state of the art cinema/theatre and leisure centre. To the west of Cardigan is St. Dogmaels, situated at the end of the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path which runs up from Amroth in the south covering a distance of about 186 miles along the magnificent coastline.

Beach

BEACHES - You will be spoilt for choice as there are numerous safe sandy beaches within a short distance at Tresaith, Llangrannog, Aberporth,the National Trust beaches of Mwnt and Penbryn - offering something for all ages - from secluded coves and rock pools to perfect areas for birdwatching, or even keeping a lookout for the bottlenose dolphins and grey seals of Cardigan Bay from the breathtaking cliff-top coastal paths.

GOLF - The area offers a choice of 9 and 18 hole courses in the vicinity. The 18 hole Par 72 course at Cardigan Golf Club is in the most beautiful setting overlooking Cardigan Bay and the Teifi estuary and presents an ever changing challenge.

FISHING - The River Teifi, which flows through nearby Cenarth is one of the premier salmon and sea trout fishing rivers in Wales. Fishing is available on some 24 miles of the lower River Teifi, which is owned by the Teifi Trout Association - Day and weekly permits are available from Cenarth Falls Holiday Park, Cenarth, during normal office hours: Please note everyone must be in possession of the National Rivers Authority Licence before commencing fishing. Excellent sea fishing also available from shore or by boat.
